To Love Is to Fly
  • Author : Jonathan Chester
  • Publisher : Andrews McMeel Publishing
  • Category : Family & Relationships

Summary:
Anyone who's ever been in love knows that this supreme emotion changes everything. When love is real, it sometimes feels like gravity itself doesn't quite apply. In To Love Is to Fly, this magical and powerful journey is told through photographer Jonathan Chester's stunning photography of penguins, along with refreshingly heartfelt prose. To Love Is to Fly is written from a me-to-you perspective, making it a great gift for spouse, partner, or main squeeze. Highlights include an image key denoting the type of penguin, environmental features, location details, online resource links, and facts about the different species in each photo. With their upright stance and bemused expressions, penguins are the most humanlike of birds. Like us, they sacrifice for their families, are mostly monogamous, and must adapt to survive in a rapidly changing world. Also like us, it's impossible for them to fly. But doesn't love make anything possible

Passionate Spirituality
  • Author : Elizabeth Dreyer
  • Publisher : Paulist Press
  • Category : Biography & Autobiography

Summary:
"Passionate Spirituality explores the roots and meanings of passion in Western culture, and then examines how passion is expressed in the works of two medieval women mystics - Hildegard of Bingen and Hadewijch of Brabant - and in the lives of contemporary Christians seeking to deepen their own spiritual journeys. Too often, the term "passion' is associated only with steamy films, sexual, sin, and emotional excess - cutting off the breadth of its meaning and expression for positive good. But the great mystics succeed precisely because they hold together both the affective and the intellectual aspects of the spiritual life in creative and convincing ways. Their accounts of their mystical experience are important resources for information and understanding about how to talk about God more formally, and for what it means to be passionately in love with God and the world."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North

Classical Hindu Erotology
  • Author : Vātsyāyana
  • Publisher : Library of Alexandria
  • Category : Fiction

Summary:
In translating the Anunga Runga, it was discovered that the name of Vatsyayana was frequently mentioned. The Pandits wording on the translation stated that Vatsyayana was the most important of all writers on Hindu erotology, and they claimed that no library was complete without his worlds, though it is almost impossible to find any extant copies today. When eventually a manuscript of the Kama Sutra was found in Bombay, it was found to be so defective that the Sanskrit scholars had to write to Benares, Calcutta and Jaipur to try to get other copies of the work. Then these copies were compared along with a commentary called the Jayamangla, and a final revised version was prepared. This is the copy that was used for the English translation of 1885. In fact, a letter from one of the Pandits who worked on the translation states: ‘This manuscript has been corrected by me after comparing jour different copies of the work. I was helpe
